Describe a ghost (apparition) manifesting itself in a room?

I'm writing a story but need a good description of a ghost manifesting itself in a room. It needs to be subtle and intelligent. Not just, "A spooky white figure came into the room." I mean something like, "A menacing presence entered the room..." or something along those lines.
