Are there any "markets" or shopping areas similar to the Ferry Building in or near San Francisco?

We went to Philadelphia and really loved visiting the "Reading Terminal Market". San Francisco has the Ferry Building, but it seems small in comparison. We are really hoping to find something like the Ferry Building or Reading Terminal Market in or near San Francisco... other than the Ferry Building. Does anyone know of something like this?
